MARILYN P. SHUPAK, Personal Injury Lawyer

Marilyn Shupak received her B.A. from Toronto’s York University in 1973 and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Windsor in 1976. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 1978, and served as a Law Clerk to the Chief Justice of the High Court of Ontario from 1978 to 1979.

Today, she is one of Toronto’s top personal injury lawyers with over 30 years of experience in personal injury law. As such, she focuses on assisting adults, children and their family members who have sustained injuries due to the negligence of others.

Her area of practice focuses on serious personal injuries and wrongful deaths arising from motor vehicle accidents, pedestrian accidents and slip and falls. She has also initiated and settled many legal actions against long term disability insurers who wrongly terminate the payment of benefits to injured policy holders.

LORNE A. FAROVITCH, Personal Injury Lawyer

Lorne Farovitch graduated with honors from McGill University in 1985 with a degree in economics. In 1988 he graduated with a Common Law Degree from the University of Ottawa and in 1990 was admitted to the Law Society of Upper Canada.

Lorne is passionate about advancing the rights of injured persons and has extensive experience in dealing with personal injury cases involving complex brain injuries, orthopaedic injuries, psychological trauma, chronic pain and fibromyalgia.

DEBRA H. BACKSTEIN, Personal Injury Lawyer

Following her graduation from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1995, Debra attended the University of Western Ontario and received her Bachelor of Laws in 1998. She was admitted to The Law Society of Upper Canada in 2000.

Practicing civil litigation for many years with a focus on insurance defence litigation, Debra moved to the plaintiff’s side as a member of Capp Shupak’s legal team.

Since joining Capp Shupak, Debra has exclusively practiced plaintiff personal injury law including motor vehicle accidents, accident benefits, slip and falls and disability claims. Debra has appeared on behalf of clients at all levels of court including the Ontario Court of Appeal. Her experience provides her with a unique knowledge and understanding of personal injury law that continues to benefit clients.

CARLY N. MARCH, Personal Injury Lawyer

Carly graduated from Toronto’s York University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and, in 2007, earned her law degree from the University of Ottawa.

Carly was admitted to the Law Society of Upper Canada in 2008. Carly first joined Capp Shupak as a summer student in 2005 and returned in the summer of 2006. Carly completed her articles with Capp Shupak and has continued her career with the firm since becoming a lawyer.

Carly has proven to be a valuable member of the Capp Shupak legal team, gaining experience in a wide range of personal injury matters including motor vehicle accidents, accident benefit claims, slip and fall injuries and disability claims.

Carly participates in pre-trial hearings, mediations and a variety of proceedings before the Financial Services Commission of Ontario in addition to appearing on behalf of clients in Small Claims Court and before Masters in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.

Carly is a member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Advocates’ Society and the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association.
